Follow these steps to install and activate your SQL Server 2016 or 2019 Standard license.
1. Go to the SQL Server download page
Choose the correct version for your system:
On the page, click the EXE download (64-bit edition) button to start the download.
2. Run the installer
Double-click the downloaded file to launch the setup.
3. Choose Basic installation
When asked to select an installation type, choose Basic.
4. Accept the license terms
Accept the license terms to continue.
5. Start the installation
Click Install and wait for the process to complete.
6. Close the installer
When the installation finishes, click Close.
7. Open SQL Server Installation Center
Use the Start menu to find and open SQL Server Installation Center.
8. Go to the Maintenance tab
Click the Maintenance tab, then select Edition Upgrade.
9. Enter your product key
Choose Enter the product key and type the key we emailed you, then click Next.
10. Complete the upgrade
Follow the steps to finish the upgrade. Click Close when done.
Your SQL Server 2016 or 2019 Standard edition is now installed and activated.
